Each photo
session is $100, which includes the shoot, 3-5 rolls of film and
contact sheets. I use a medium format camera, which yields larger
negatives, and I only shoot film. This combination, in my
opinion, produces the best quality photographs. All processing
and printing is done by hand in my darkroom. From unwrapping the
film at the beginning of a shoot, to drying a perfected final print,
the film never leaves my hands or possession. I love to get my
hands dirty in the darkroom, to see the film while it’s still wet or to
see images first appear on the paper. I love being a photographer
and I enjoy every aspect of the process. To me, making the prints
in the darkroom is just as important and exciting as creating beautiful
images on film.
I shoot exclusively on location, either at your home
or at the park, where the background is more natural with grass and
trees and children are less restricted. This creates a more
relaxed environment and more relaxed children. My style and
approach to photographing children is definitely a documentary
approach. My preference is to let the children play and explore
rather than posing a child, my goal is to bring out the unique
personality of the individual. Most children are uninhibited in
front of the camera, so with a little patience, their true
personalities and natural expressions can be captured on
film.
